Notes and Queries

This online archive of Vince Clarke's APAzine K (69 issues from February 1990 to December 1996) is not complete. It consists of what we could recover from his Amstrad PCW and 386 PC disks, including the unfinished and presumably unpublished #70. Also included are the first three issues (January-May 1995) of his other APAzine, Vincentian (nine known issues, 1995-1997). See the Memory Hole Permacollection Catalogue.

The text has been tidied slightly for web publication, mainly by replacing a great many page-wide or column-wide fannish "XXXXXXXXXXXX", "-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-" etc. dividers with simple horizontal rules:

Known Problems

• Issues and part-issues not found on disk: K5, K17, K44 masthead, K54 front page, K57 front page, and K58-K69 entire. K70 is unfinished, perhaps never published. The stray text From K?? is a partial comments section not yet matched up with any known issue; it was found on the disk containing K12 and K18.

• All illustrations and other artwork pasted in after printing are missing. Some of these had better not be restored on copyright grounds (there's a mention of an Escher engraving) and some were just decorative extras, but the pictures of con badges in K8 are necessary to the argument. Elsewhere there are several comments on reproduced news clippings. A [[SPACE FOR ARTWORK]] marker has been added in a few obvious places.

• Books About SF in K55 is continued in the unfinished-looking document Books About SF Continued. This may have been completed and published as promised in a later issue missing from the archive: further research needed here. Later: Jonathan Cowie has found a longer (six more paragraphs after the one on Sam Lundwall) and somewhat rewritten version of this essay serialized in the Phoenicians' clubzine. This is still apparently unfinished.
